OZONE SHOCK THERAPY

Pure Ozone is extremely effective in treating indoor air pollution and leaves no harmful residue. Produced by proprietary equipment from SCO Technologies, it is used by Healthy Homes, Inc., to treat the sick-building syndrome caused by indoor air pollution.  State-of-the-art sampling equipment, and methodologies, as well as licensed and certified laboratories, are utilized in  indoor air quality analysis.

Indoor air pollution can cause or contribute to numerous illnesses.  Chemical vapors emitted from many modern construction materials and airborne biological contaminants, such as mold, dust mites, fungi, spores, pollen, bacteria and viruses, contribute to indoor air pollution.

Ozone Shock Therapy is used to rid your home or automobile of toxic and obnoxious odors caused by molds, mildews, chemicals or pets   Since these contaminants are made up of carbon-based molecules, they can be neutralized by pure Ozone (O3).  In treating a home, pure Ozone concentrations are brought up to very high levels.  After a few hours, fans are used to clear the Ozone-treated air, and the house is tested for safe Ozone levels.  No harmful residues are left, and the area is ready to be safely entered.

Since smog is often referred to as Ozone, there is some confusion about Ozone and what it is.   This issue is addressed on the Good Ozone/Bad Ozone page.

WHAT IS OZONE?

Ozone is a pale blue unstable gas that is very active and has a characteristic penetrating scent, readily detectable at concentrations as low as 0.01 to 0.05 ppm.  It is an unstable molecule consisting of three atoms of oxygen, whereas a “normal” oxygen molecule has only two atoms of oxygen.  Because the Ozone molecule is so unstable, it quickly breaks off its extra oxygen atom.  This lone oxygen atom goes in search of another atom to bond to.  If it finds another oxygen atom it will form a new molecule of normal oxygen,  but if it finds a carbon-based molecule, it will break into that molecule, destroying it in the process.

Ozone has been used in Europe since 1903 to purify drinking water and in many countries as a medicinal agent. http://www.familyhealthnews.com/32.html
It has also been used  as an antimicrobial agent on food.  View the FDA final rules on this: FDA Rules on Ozone in Food Sanitation
For information on Ozone generators from the US Environmental Protection Agency, read this page. It is about the type of generators that are supposed to run continuously to clean air and not the kind Healthy Homes, Inc., uses, which are run at high levels for a brief period of time, but the information applies.  US EPA Indoor Air Publications
THE METHODOLOGY AND PROPRIETARY EQUIPMENT

The proprietary equipment from SCO Technologies produces pure Ozone.  Using this methodology, the area to be purified is evacuated (including animals and plants). The equipment is deployed, and pure Ozone concentrations are brought up to high levels, which are maintained for a few hours.  When purification is complete, fans are used to evacuate all the Ozone-treated air, and the house is tested to ensure that a safe Ozone level (less than 0.05 ppm.) has been reached. This completes the purification process; no harmful residues are left, and the home is ready to be safely entered
