COMMON MOLDS

Aspergillus, Cladosporum, Stachybotrys, and Penicillum are some of the over 1000 species of common indoor molds that may inhabit your home. Sensitive people may develop allergies to particular molds, usually with hay-fever-like symptoms. In cases of extreme vulnerability or exposure they may develop lung conditions or other diseases such as asthma, emphysema, immune system suppression and generalized malaise.

Mold testing and bioaerosol sampling

Bulk sampling is done to determine if organisms have colonized the material being sampled and are actively growing. The purpose of surface sampling is to identify surfaces where previously airborne biological particles have deposited and accumulated.  Laboratory analysis identifies these organisms and particles.

Air sampling is done to collect aeroallergens such as pollens, mold and fungal spores, fiber, dander, insect components and other airborne contaminants for laboratory analysis.

Healthy Homes, Inc., uses the Cy Clex™ bioaerosol impactor developed by Environmental Monitoring Systems, Inc.,to collect samples for fungal spore count and identification, and for pollen and mycelial fragment count. The Aerotech 6™ microbial sampler is used for the sampling of bioaerosols on culture media to obtain an environmental fungi count and genus identification.

Our laboratory analysis is done by Aerotech Laboratories, Inc., accredited by the American Industrial Hygiene Association which currently offers the most respected quality assurance programs for microbiology laboratories in the Indoor Air Quality industry.
